New residents who do not have a New York State driver license or New York State vehicle registration

What if I become a resident of NYS and do not get a driver license or a vehicle registration within the 30 days required by NYS law?

Read the requirements for drivers or vehicle owners who become residents of New York State.

You can receive a traffic ticket if you do not apply for a New York State driver license or vehicle registration after you become a permanent resident of New York.

You can report a violation of this law by another person to a law enforcement agency. The DMV does not enforce this law.

The DMV does not issue a penalty or charge an additional fee if you apply for a New York State driver license or a vehicle registration after the 30 days.
